This week the University of Bath hosted the first meeting of the Inclusive Innovation FAB strand, for an initial discussion to map out existing understanding of the term ‘Inclusive Innovation’ and to establish a plan for how to advance work in this area.
Representatives from the Council, RUH, Bath Spa University, local industry, social housing providers, community organisations and third sector organisations were invited to attend the discussion, and a wealth of local information and insight was gathered.
David Cleevely, entrepreneur and telecommunications expert who has built and advised many companies throughout his career, gave a keynote address at the beginning of the session, encouraging attendees to consider how they think about innovation and the unique routes to innovation that exist in our local area.
An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the Banes region for inclusive innovation, of the many opportunities that exist, and of the threats associated with failing to embrace these was carried out.
The group will reconvene in the summer to undertake next steps, which will include mapping the local innovation ecosystem and scrutinising it for gaps and opportunities.
