High street improvement plans

Plans have been approved for the revitilisation of four local high streets—Twerton High Street, Mount Road, Moorland Road, and Weston High Street—through the Bath Local High Streets Improvement Scheme.

Funded by £295,000 from the West of England Combined Authority’s ‘Love Our High Streets’ programme, supplemented by £158,000 from the Community Infrastructure Levy and other sources, the £453,000 project aims to enhance these areas throughout 2025.

Phase 1, focusing on Twerton High Street and Mount Road, has already delivered community events like Twert Lush, art installations, sensory gardens, and pop-up shops supporting local artists. Improvements also include new street furniture, raised planters, hanging baskets, and shopfront enhancements.

Phase 2 targets Moorland Road and Weston High Street with similar upgrades: street furniture, planting, deep cleaning, and artist-designed signage. Additional plans may involve community events, heritage asset restoration, and reducing street clutter.

This initiative aligns with the ’15-minute neighbourhood’ principle, aiming to meet residents’ daily needs within a short walk or cycle, thereby fostering vibrant, accessible, and sustainable local centres, and is supported by the Future Ambition Board’s ‘Stronger Places‘ working group.
